The Furry Children

From left to right: Kaia, Jason, Yuki and Miki.

This is the newest member of my parent's kitty herd, Silly Cat. She was an abandoned cat that lived in their backyard. She very quickly overcame her fear of people to adopt my parents as hers. Due to her small size, my parents thought she was just a kitten. When they brought her to the vet, they discovered that she was probably about 13 or 14 years old! It's sad to think someone abandoned a sweet old kitty like Silly Cat. She is very loving and is now content to spend most of her time indoors.

Sadly, my parents lost Silly Cat to cancer last year. They noticed she was sick over the weekend and 2 days later she had to be put down. My dad wrote the following obituary in honor of this sweet little cat that only spent a short time with them. If you would like, you can send a little sympathy note to my parents. I'm sure they would appreciate it.

Beloved pet and sister, Silly Cat Wakai passed on to glory
this evening at 6:30 P.M., Tuesday, July 30, 1996. She was
15 years old at the time of her death after a brief and sud-
den illness. She is survived by her parents, Herb and Dee,
4 brothers, Miki, Jason, Yuki, and Kaia. An aunt, Sandra
Anne in San Francisco, California; cousins, Pea-chan, Tomi-
chan and Oni-chan; Great aunt and uncle, Helen and Ray in
Connecticut. Her unexpected appearance into our lives 2
years ago was a surprise. We loved her as our own. Like
all families, sibling rivalry always existed. Ours was no
different. Nevertheless they all tolerated each other.
SHE WILL BE MISSED !!!!

Kaia's Story

"Peek-a-boo!"

Kaia used to be my cat. I got him from the Humane Society in Boulder, CO. This is him as a kitten. He loved to play Hide-and-go-seek and would hide in bags or pots and pans. As we'd walk around and call to him, he'd crouch down and flatten his ears and think we couldn't see him. He went to live with my parent 5 years ago when I found out that one of my roommates was hitting him. He's now a very spoiled kitty and goes away with my parents on weekends in their big motor home.
