Froggy

Froggy was hatched on 07/09/95. He is a yellow-collared macaw, one of two in the clutch. His sister, Alice, lives with my bird-sitter.

Froggy had an accident at birth. His mother, trying to help him out of the egg, accidentally tore off Froggy's upper beak. It is s-l-o-w-l-y growing back in, but until it does, he has to go to the vet every two weeks for beak trims. The vet trims his lower beak, so the upper beak will grow in straight.

Froggy is phobic of people. He is absolutely terrified of everyone except me, and he even has days when he acts afraid of me. He seems to be especially uncomfortable with hands.

Having Froggy is a lot like having a terrier puppy. He is always moving, whether it be swinging from his many perches/swings, climbing down to check out his food dish, fighting with his toys, or sneaking up on Kenya to bite that irresistably red tail. :) Even when he is out of his cage and on me, Froggy can't seem to keep himself upright. He is either doing loop-de-loops on my finger, wrestling, or resting upside down in my hand, preening himself.

Froggy has an extensive vocabulary. He can say "hi Froggy," "hi Frogs," "good boy," "oh boy," "ammit," "Od ammit," "hello," "what," and "up." He yells these things happily while swinging upside down from my fingers, or will cuddle up against my neck and whisper, "Hi Froggy, hi Frogs," into my ear. Since he is only eight months old, I have high hopes that he'll be adding even more words to his vocabulary soon.

Froggy is extremely smart. He can disassemble anything with screws in it. He figured out his snack carousel in all of about three minutes, and when he gets all the treats out, he raids Kenya's snack carousel. (Kenya hasn't worked it all out yet.)

Froggy loves showers, and would take them three or four times daily, if I let him. He also loves fruit juice, head scratches, and car rides. He hates vet visits, being in his cage when he knows I am home, and watching me pay attention to anyone other than him!
